What is the unit of electric charge?
Recall your answer before revealing the back.
Start with notes you understand
Paste revision text or choose a PDF with selectable text. A short, focused section works better than a whole textbook: one lesson, one process or one set of definitions gives you a deck you can check carefully.
The PDF reader extracts text from up to the first 40 pages. It does not read scanned pages or handwriting, and images or diagrams are not carried into the cards. If the important information is in an image, type a clear description into your notes first.
- Pasted text: use your own summaries, lesson notes or material you have permission to use.
- Text-based PDFs: check that you can select and copy the words before uploading.
- Choose either pasted notes or a PDF. If you choose a file, its extracted text is used instead of the pasted text.
Generate a manageable first deck
Create your account and complete any first-use setup. Open Flashcards, choose a new deck and select From revision materials; the page initially offers Type my own for manual cards. Give your deck a clear title, optionally add a subject, choose a card count and provide your source text.
Mox uses AI to draft the cards and saves the generated deck to your account. A requested card count is a target, not a promise that every source will produce that many useful cards. If generation fails, follow the message shown rather than repeatedly submitting the same request.
A focused source
Diffusion is the net movement of particles from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration. A steeper concentration gradient increases the rate of diffusion. This can become two separate questions: what is diffusion, and how does the gradient affect its rate?
Check, edit and keep your cards
Open the saved deck to inspect each question and answer. Check definitions, units, equations and exceptions against your lesson material or specification. AI can omit an important condition or produce an inaccurate answer; a fluent answer is not evidence that it is correct.
Edit the front and back when a card is too broad or unclear. You can also create a deck manually with your own front-and-back cards. Saved decks can be reopened from Flashcards, so you do not need to regenerate them for each revision session.
- Make the front a specific question, not just a topic name.
- Keep the back short enough to compare with your own recalled answer.
- Split a long process into separate prompts, then practise explaining the whole process too.
Review what is due, not just what feels easy
Open your due reviews, try to answer before revealing the back, then rate your recall: Again, Hard, Good or Easy. The scheduler uses your review history to decide when to show the card again. Struggling cards return sooner; well-recalled cards can be spaced further apart.
Editing the wording of a card does not reset its existing review history. Keep ratings honest: being able to recognise an answer after revealing it is not the same as recalling it without help. Pair your cards with topic questions so you also practise applying what you remember.
Free and Premium: the current limits
Free accounts can create five new decks per account-based monthly allowance, shared between manual and material-based creation. Free decks are limited to 20 cards. Premium removes the manual deck and card plan limits, while AI generation remains capped at 300 cards per request.
These limits do not guarantee a particular AI output size. The app shows your allowance and any restrictions when you create a deck. You can review the full subscription options on the Pricing page.
Common questions
Can I generate flashcards without a PDF?
Yes. Paste at least 50 characters of useful revision text into From revision materials, then generate your deck. You can also type manual front-and-back cards without using AI.
Does it support handwritten or scanned PDFs?
The flashcard PDF reader extracts existing text, not handwriting or text contained only in images. Use selectable-text PDFs or paste a typed version of your notes.
Are generated answers always right?
No. Check each card against reliable lesson material and edit anything inaccurate, ambiguous or incomplete before relying on it for revision.
Do I need an account?
Yes. Generation, saving and scheduled reviews are account features. New users may first complete the starter introduction before opening Flashcards.
